Laser Epilation

One of the most successful applications of laser is permanent depilation.

The hairs and pass to their roots absorb laser beam, so that the hair roots gets warm.

However, it is not possible for all hairs to absorb the laser beam and transfer it to their roots at the same level due to the fact that the hairs, like all other cells of human body, are involved in a physical cycle. Therefore, it is necessary to undergo a few sessions to remove body hair by means of laser depilation.

Body hair live through the stages of growth, rest and fall. If laser depilation is applied when they are in the growth stage, it can be permanently removed in a single session. Therefore, laser depilation sessions should be held at one or two month intervals. If laser depilation is applied when the hairs are at a stage other than the growth stage, they will be kind of fumigated and the laser beam will not reach the roots. Regular treatment will ensure you to notice that laser depilation is the most successful method of hair removal.

Number and interval of laser depilation session depend on the location of hairs and individual genetic characteristics; in general it takes 3 to 8 sessions at 1 or 2 month intervals. When hairs grow 0.5 cm high, a session should be held to prevent them from growing longer, provided that at least one month should have passed since the last session.

Laser depilation can be applied on all people older than 16, having a proper type of body hair, having a distinctive difference between the colors of body hair and skin, and being not sensitive to light.

Laser beam is not harmful in any way, is directed at body hairs, and does not damage the surrounding tissues. The worst possible side effect of laser depilation is non-permanent stains, which can be treated.

Individuals undergoing laser depilation must not remove their body hairs by using tweezers or a thread; otherwise the roots of the body hairs get thin, and sensitivity of the hairs to laser decreases. Furthermore, no laser depilation session should be held within 48 to 72 hours following a sunbath or solarium, and neither solarium nor sunbath should be taken for a few weeks following such session.

Laser depilation process warms the roots of body hairs to remove them. It is of utmost importance to protect the skin during the said warming process. In order to prevent the upper layer of skin from being damaged, cooling devices or gases are applied on the skin before the session. The fact that modern laser depilation systems contain cooling devices is a major advantage that distinguishes them from other hair removal methods.

Choosing a Surgeon

It is imperative when choosing a cosmetic surgeon to consider the following issues. Cosmetic surgery is a major decision and careful thought should be given to choosing a provider. Any reputable cosmetic surgeon will welcome your questions and want you to be completely comfortable with his or her qualifications.

  • What are the surgeon’s credentials?
Don’t hesitate to verify a physician’s medical license, certifications and professional society memberships and ask what the requirements are to be a member or to be board certified in that specialty.

  • What is the surgeon’s experience?
Ask about the surgeon’s medical education and training specific to cosmetic surgery and the procedure which you are considering. How many procedures of this kind has the doctor done and how often does he or she perform them?

  • Ask for referrals from friends.
Keep in mind that physicians specialize in different areas of cosmetic surgery and most are not experts in every area. The surgeon who did a fantastic facelift on a friend may not be the most experienced to perform breast augmentation.

  • Before-and-after photographs can give you some indication of a surgeon's ability, although you must realize that they cannot guarantee the result you will achieve.
Each patient is different and the surgeon can help determine what kind of results you should expect.

  • Look at your options.
Don’t be afraid to consult with more than one cosmetic surgeon to discuss your desired outcome. There may be more than one technique available with varying risks, benefits, recovery time and results.

  • Ask where your surgery will be performed.
Cosmetic surgery is performed in various facilities such as hospitals, surgical centers and office settings. An accredited surgical facility must meet certain minimum standards to obtain and maintain its accreditation. Facilities may be accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC) or the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

  • Make sure you are comfortable with the personal rapport between you and your surgeon.
In addition, you should feel at ease with the staff, as much of your communication will be with them. You should always feel that your concerns are being addressed. Do not be satisfied with an incomplete answer from anyone.

  • What "red-flags" should I look for?
    • A doctor who is impatient and rushes you to make a decision on your surgery and/or an environment that is unsterile.
    • A doctor who is willing to combine several major surgeries into one operation. While this may save on anesthesia and surgical facility fees, safety must be the primary concern. Not only is surgery traumatic on your body, but the surgeon and staff tire out as well. Discuss the timing of surgery with your physician and inquire about the safest method of achieving your desired results.
    • A doctor that refuses to answer questions or provide you with requested information.

Poop packaging firm underlines importance of creativity in sustainability

Avon profits miss expectations on economic turmoil

Avon has reported a strong rise in its third quarter profits, but poor North American sales spell missed market expectations.

Having announced strong sales growth in its preliminary financial report for the quarter, the company revealed that net profit had increased from $139.1m for the corresponding quarter last year, to $222.6m for the current quarter.

Although this figure represented an increase of 60 percent compared to last year, the figure did not match up to Wall Street analysts' expectations.

A dip in sales in the company’s North American regions, brought about by the credit crunch and lower consumer spending, sent shares tumbling by more than 20 percent in early trading today.

North American outlook weak

Further to the results, the company also warned that sales results in North America could deteriorate still further, as the economic and retail landscape continues to remain weak.

Pushed by the developing markets, sales grew by 13 percent to reach $2.6bn, counteracting a fall of 3 percent for sales in North America – a performance that is expected to worsen in the region during the fourth quarter.

Likewise, the recent strength of the US dollar against other world currencies is also expected to impact results for the final quarter.

Latin America is shining star

However, things are looking far rosier in Latin America, where year-on-year sales results were up 25 percent and 13 percent in local currencies, led by gains of 30 percent and 40 percent in Brazil and Venezuela, respectively.

In Central and Eastern Europe, third quarter revenues rose 17 percent in real terms and 5 percent in local currency, whereas in Western Europe, Middle East and Africa, the figure was up 8 percent and 6 percent in local currencies.

The company said that the current situation in the North American market and the forecast for the fourth quarter is likely to impact its operating margins, which means it has lowered expectations from 14 to 13 percent.
